From the ‘Lieber Herbert’ poster campaign.
About 10,000 posters were hanged in Berlin, to catch the artist’s attention.
I have your next HIT! please contact, love Roy.”
My name is Roy, I am a music producer and a songwriter. I do not consider myself an artist, what is an artist? What is art? I do however see myself as a creative person, anyone can get creative, they just have to think outside the box. That’s what I did here:
Making your way in the music industry is very hard, everyone knows it. My story is not different than other fellow songwriters/singers/musicians who try to find a way in.
We do it for recognition, we do it for acknowledgement, and it would also be nice to be able to live from it. I have written many good songs and unfortunately most of them never saw the light of day and stayed in the drawer. This brought me to start writing for other artists, known ones; they would be able to bring life to the words and compositions, they have the ability to spread them and touch the hearts of hundreds of others.
I wrote a German song, it is beyond doubt hit material. I needed to find the right person to sing it. I aimed high with full confidence, luckily I found the best of the best to deliver a song like that, Herbert Grönemeyer, he is my guy! Now, how do I get to him?
I do not have any relevant contacts in the music industry or a horde of instagram followers, so I tried the conventional way. I wrote an email to Herbert Grönemeyer’s record label, and attached my demo to it. After a long wait without getting a reply I realized, I need to step up.
I HAD TO GET CREATIVE.
I decided not to give up, I had to get this song to Herbert Grönemeyer! and then it hit me: “the direct way is the best way” a simple innocent approach to be delivered old school style, rather than the flooded ocean of digital media; I chose posters! I always believed in them and Berlin is the perfect place for it. I came up with a simple design and wrote straight to the point “Herbert, I wrote you a hit, let’s meet!”. As simple as that.
Many responses came from colleagues in the music industry, people who called this act “A game changer” or “New hope”. Mega influencers such as NOTES OF BERLIN described me as the “next songwriter legend” and the poster got thousands of feedbacks.
A leading instagram blog with hundreds of thousands of followers.
The TAGESSPIEGEL
The biggest daily newspaper in Berlin
wrote a long article about the poster campaign and my approach to Herbert, supporting and spreading the word even more than before.
RADIO RBB 88.8
A radio interview in the most popular radio station in Berlin (in German)
SAT.1 also covered the campaign on the morning show Frühstücksfernsehen where the legendary Vicky Leandros showed her interest in a having a hit written for her as well.
More radio and television stations wanted to interview me about the new song but I kindly declined since they wanted me to reveal the song. I explained that I am doing this whole effort only to get to Herbert Grönemeyer, and he will also be the first person to hear the song.
A NEW YEAR STARTED and today we are hanging another 1000 posters.
Although I didn’t get any formal reply yet,
I am optimistic and hope to update good news soon ?
Love, Roy.
After about 10,000 posters and still no response from the person in charge (Herbert), I came up with this idea of writing a song that tells my story and my struggle of trying to make my way in music industry.
